To have healthy, beautiful skin and to slow down the skin aging process it is important to follow a regular skin-care routine as well as to reduce exposure to skin hazards (such as sun, free radicals etc.), have a balanced diet, and take rightly-timed preventative measures.
What are the basic steps to beautiful skin? Here is a short guide to the fundamentals.
Step 1: Identify your Skin Type
Do you have dry, normal or combination type of skin? Your selection of products and steps of your daily skin care routine will depend on the type of skin you have. If you don't know yet if it is normal, oily, dry or combination go to our skin type page.
Step 2: Follow a regular skin care routine.
It should include the following steps:
Twice daily:
Cleansing
Toning
Moisturizing
Protection (AM)/ Nutrition (AM/PM)
Once or 2 times a week:
Exfoliation
Additional skin treatments

Step 3: Avoid skin damage by reducing exposure to the skin hazards
An important part of keeping your skin beautiful and young for the longest time is to avoid or minimize damage to your skin.
Exclude (or at least minimize) damaging factors to your skin. For example wear sunscreen to protect your skin from UV damage. Also avoid direct and long sun exposure. Minimize the use of alcohol. Alcohol dilates small blood vessels in the skin and can result in their permanent damage and a "flushed" appearance. Quit smoking or if you are not a smoker avoid being in smoky environment. Tobacco smoke not only dries the skin surface, it restricts blood vessels and reduces the amount of blood flowing to the skin this way depriving the skin of essential oxygen and nutrients. Avoid skin irritants in cosmetics, skin care products, detergents. Read more about skin damaging factors here.
Step 4: Maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle
There is always an inside and outside story to keeping your skin young, healthy and beautiful. Whatever you apply topically to the skin will never work if your diet does not provide you skin with the necessary nutrients for it to be able to build collagen, maintain its elasticity, have a better ability to regenerate, retain moisture and protect itself against free radical damage etc. The perfect diet for the beautiful skin includes a selection of vegetables and fruits rich in: Vitamin C that helps collagen formation, omega-3 fatty acid that improves skin texture by “moisturizing” the skin from the inside, Vitamin E that provides the cells with protection from free radicals. Also include into your diet a source of protein and minimize oily, deep fried, artificial foods.
Step 5: Take preventative measures: Prevention is better than cure
